The Foreign & Commonwealth Office has the vital role of developing and implementing the government’s foreign policy across the globe. Communicating online is vital to our mission.

The EU Communications Team is responsible for communicating EU issues to the British public via a broad range of publications and marketing material. The recently launched website http://www.europe.gov.uk/ has enjoyed considerable attention and publicity – and you will build on its success, taking overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the site.

Planning and adding new website content, you will liaise constantly with colleagues both within the FCO and externally to keep the site current and engaging, delegate and oversee editorial activity and source and edit material for every area of the site. At the same time, you will moderate the forum on the future of Europe debate and provide web training and support to colleagues across the Team, giving you considerable variety – and enabling you to gain invaluable skills for your future career in the public or private sector.

A skilled online communications professional, you will have extensive experience of editing a major corporate or government website. You will share our passion for the possibilities of digital media, be skilled in content management, HTML, web development and basic graphics manipulation, monitoring and evaluating website statistics and possess some grounding in the principles of marketing. Most importantly, you will be capable of dealing with disparate stakeholders, prioritising a complex and challenging workload and rapidly becoming an expert in European issues – enabling you to make a measurable difference from day one.
