Another Fine Mess

This morning as the Conservative Party start their search for the Lonesome Pine in Birmingham, Alistair Darling has announced that the government will take control of Bradford & Bingley's .£41bn of mortgages and its personal loans, along with all its other debts.

The deal increases the UK taxpayers' exposure to the deteriorating housing market, on top of the £100bn already guaranteed to Northern Rock.
