As Gordon Brown prepares for today's events in Beijing, with the Olympic torch being handed to London. He was visibly buoyed by the performance of the British team, he has spent the past few days meeting the athletes and watching them perform.
He is clearly hoping for a "Beijing bounce" but the polls this weekend show little sign of one emerging.
Pressed by Sky News if he was confident that he would still be in a job by Christmas, the Prime Minister replied: "Of course."
He added: "I am totally focussed on only one thing and that is taking this country through these difficult economic circumstances.
"We have got to get on with the job. People want us to get on with the job. Getting on with the job is the most important thing at the moment."
