EU proposes jail to fight counterfeiters
The European Commission is proposing a minimum four-year jail terms for certain counterfeiters as part of a beefed-up European Union law to fight piracy.
The EU commissioner for justice and home affairs, Franco Frattini, said "We decided that counterfeiting is a real crime against industry, constituting a growing business for organised crime and is a real threat for consumers," Frattini said. "Our proposal aims to eradicate safe havens for the criminal organisations on counterfeiting and piracy."
What about our legislature? This is counterfeit democracy at work.
