Will Austria keep a low profile

Today as the UK’s disastrous EU presidency swans off into the sunset, Austria waltzes in and takes up the reins of the European Ass. Wolfgang Schuessel the Austrian Chancellor hopes to revive growth in Western Europe and continue EU enlargement, forge ahead with the EU constitution and win over a European parliament to approve the 2007-13 budget during his six-month presidency.

But will his agenda be swayed by an Austrian general election, which is to be held in the second half of 2006; Austrian voters have become the most euro-sceptical in the EU and rightly so. They were denied the opportunity of a referendum last year and the Harlot rode in on the back of the beast. Anschluss II
