Austria aims to revive EU constitution
The end of Britain's presidency of the European Union last week has unleashed a barrage of demands from political leaders who want their favourite elements from the draft constitution to be "cherry-picked" from the moribund treaty and given independent life.
The demands, emanating from France and Germany, came just as Austria, the new holder of the rotating presidency, signalled its enthusiasm for the constitution and its willingness to start work on reviving it, despite the fact that it was rejected by voters in France and Holland last year.
