Your avin a larrrrf aint yeh

According to researchers at the Climate Mission at the Caisse des Depots, a French state-owned bank, France's 20 million cows who of course "fart", account for an astonishing 6.5 per cent of national greenhouse-gas emissions.

They further state that Cow Shit or "dejection bovine," to use the poetic-sounding French phrase -- account for another 12 million tonnes. Compare that with the 12 million tonnes of gas emitted by French oil refineries, and it makes you wonder about the cheesy GREENIES who demonise the burning of fossil fuel as climate-killers.

Nor is bovine gas just any old gas. It comprises methane and nitrous oxide, which volume-for-volume are 21 and 310 times more effective at trapping solar heat respectively than boring CO2.

By itself, methane is to blame for a fifth of the man-made greenhouse effect of the past 200 years. The good news is that, when it comes to cow farting, we can all have a little chuckle

Nitrous Oxide is better known as laughing gas

NHS told to round up ill-looking Scots (The scotsman)

FIRST there were the healthy eating campaigns. Then, there was the plan to ban public smoking. Now Scottish ministers are stepping up their assault on flabby and nicotine-addicted Scotland by establishing squads of "health enforcers" who will seek out those citizens in greatest danger of an early exit and badger them into visiting a GP for a check-up

As some of you may know, from reading my post is divorce a conviction, I am now a single man with an intact pension fund. The fool that I am, (red blooded, binge drinking, anglo saxon) I have recently joined "Faceparty" ,the online (for want of a better description) "dating site".

OK, desperate urges require desperate solutions. As I have stated, I am but a simple soul and all that I seek, 'is a warm bed and a hot meal'. However, this post is an explanation to those who may come across my Faceparty Profile and wonder as to why, I have suggested Margot Wallstrom would be my perfect partner.

1. I am a night porter
2. she works days (warm bed)
3. on my days off, she can invite me to her 4 hour lunches
4. when I have had my fill of food and drink, I can indulge in a little wife beating

Press Release
The People's No Campaign
23rd September 2005

Campaigners force Council to remove EU Flag

Wear Valley District Council has been long flying the EU flag outside its council offices. Its Leader, Olive Brown is a representative on the EU's Committee of the Regions. Neil Herron and Bishop Auckland and Wear Valley District Council resident resident, Jim Tague, decided action needed to be taken against this blatant attempt to promote the EU.

The Regulations for the flying of flags is controlled by the Department of Culture Media and Sport. The flying of flags other than the Union flag is regulated by the Town and Country Planning Act 1992 Regulations on the display of Advertisements.

As the European Union is a political project a Local Authority will also be in contravention of Section 19 of the Local Authority Guidelines on Publicity...ie. you cannot use public money to attempt to persuade the public to hold a particular view on a political matter.

So, any Local Authority flying an EU flag must be asked politiely to remove it as they will not have planning permission and are in breach of the Section 19 guidelines.

The request for an explanation as to whether WVDC had planning permission to fly the EU flag was made by Jim a couple of weeks ago and yesterday WVDC confirmed that they had no authority or permission to fly the flag.

This morning the Cross of St. George had been hoist on the flagpole in place of the EU flag.

Neil Herron states: "It is not acceptable for any Local Authority to be promoting the EU... a corrupt, undemocratic, unaccountable, profligate bureaucracy. The EU is a political project and cannot be promoted using taxpayers money. Flying a flag amounts to blatant propaganda. Within twelve months we will ensure that no EU flag will be flying from any public building in this country.Well done to Jim Tague for bringing the matter to a speedy conclusion."

We now expect every other Council across the country to start obeying the law and remove any EU flags from public buildings.

And Burn Them

A Guide to Flag Protocol in the United Kingdom
(An extract from the book “British Flags and Emblems”)

The Proper Disposal of Flags
When a flag becomes tattered or faded and is no longer in a suitable condition for use, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, for example by burning it privately, or by tearing or cutting it into strips that no longer resemble the original flag.

Anglosphere Leads World in Ease of Doing Business

According to the World Bank the Anglosphere Leads World when it comes to the Ease of Doing Business.

The Top ten are as follows:

1. New Zealand
2. Singapore
3. United States
4. Canada
5. Norway
6. Australia
7. Hong Kong, China
8. Denmark
9. United Kingdom
10. Japan

Nations comprising the Anglosphere share a common historical narrative in which the Magna Carta, the values of the English and American Bills of Rights, and such Common Law principles as trial by jury, presumption of innocence, "a man's home is his castle", and "a man's word is his bond" are taken for granted. Thus persons or communities who happen to communicate or do business in English are not necessarily part of the Anglosphere, unless their cultural values have also come to share such values of the historical English-speaking civilization.

Un-Chained, no melody

Metropolitan Police officers, on duty at Balmoral to guard the Queen during her summer visit, confirmed that the wicket was indeed 22 metres instead of 22 yards. Reported in the Times

Metric muddle catches out the cricketers of Balmoral

Bob McAra, 55, club secretary and a medium-pace bowler, said he could not remember such a bad season in 31 years of play. “The staff at Balmoral always make up the pitch for us and we just turn up and play,”

Come on Groundsman Willie, Its not that difficult

Twenty Juan Today

Go WEST young man and buy 20 Kimi's

A young man from Finland wins the Belgium Grand Prix. (You know, that same Belgium, which is the home of the repressive Buzzing Hornets, which are the EU Commission and Parliament). This was a SMOKING performance, a LUCKY STRIKE, you may say. Kimi Raikkonen's performance, in the wet, was CONSULATE, as Cool as a Mountain Stream.

This was a crucial performance to thwart the chances of Fernando Alsonso, the young spanish challenger to Michael Schumacher chances of retaining the world championship.

Not since the last battles of Spanish succession, when MARLBORO (oops, must update my microsoft spell checker) Marlborough, ventured into the border region of the Ardennes to kick ass at Malplaquet, have we seen such tenacity.

The Last Night of the Proms

The big annual party at the Royal Albert Hall, at Proms in the Park and in 8 other cities across the UK takes place on Saturday, 10th September

Every year the Royal Albert Hall resounds to the sounds of Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia and Jerusalem roared out by the audience and accompanied by the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

People who would never dream of watching or going to a concert of classical music watch it on television. It's an opportunity for the British, and particularly the English, to show the rest of the world that we can be unbuttoned, eccentric and openly enjoy ourselves. We don't even mind that some people are waving flags from other nations instead of the Union Jack or the English Cross of St George—it all adds to the fun.

But if you want real fun BURN this one

The guinea

A guinea used to be £1-1s-0d (which is now £1.05) and could be written as '1g' or '1gn' or, in the plural, '3gs' or '3gns'. It was considered a more gentlemanly amount than £1. You paid tradesmen, such as a carpenter, in pounds but gentlemen, such as an artist, in guineas. It was a tradition in the legal profession that a barrister was paid in guineas but kept only the pounds, giving his clerk the shillings (they were all men then).

So what has changed?

The Common Law Repealed

"However in my view the Act (Bill of Rights 1689) cannot be read literally because to do so would ignore the obvious changes between the legal system in 1689 and the present day"

"The intention of the Act was to provide the citizen with certain rights and to prevent the imposition of any financial penalty without there being a right of challenge, which certainly in areas of criminal law is one purpose of the more modern European Convention on Human Rights".

These are the words of Stephen J. Knap Parking Adjudicator

Visit Neil Herron's blog for the full story.

Well Mr Knap, "Non in legendo sed in intelligendo leges consistunt".
The laws consist not in being read, but in being understood

Section 11 of the Human Rights Act 1998 A person's reliance on a Convention right does not restrict-

(a) any other right or freedom conferred on him by or under any law having effect in any part of the United Kingdom;

The Bill of Rights still has effect, it has not been repealed. The National Parking Adjudication Service is not a court of law. By assuming and exercising a power of dispensing with and suspending of laws, and the execution of laws, without consent of parliament is also illegal under the Bill of Rights. One only has to apply the principle of Pepper v Heart [1993] 1 All ER 42

Using the principle of Pepper v. Hart, which allows us to refer to what was said in Parliament to determine what the intention of Parliament was, we can determine what the original contract between crown and people is;

"The Rights of the people had been confirmed by early Kings both before and after the Norman line began. Accordingly, the people have always had the same title to their liberties and properties that England's Kings have unto their Crowns. The several Charters of the people's rights, most particularly Magna Carta, were not grants from the King, but recognition's by the King of rights that have been reserved or that appertained unto us by common law and immemorial custom."

(Sir Robert Howard, a member of the Committee's which drafted the Bill of Rights).

Confirmatio cartarum [25 Edw. I]
[29] No Freeman shall be taken, or imprisoned, or be disseised of his Freehold, or Liberties, or free Customs, or be outlawed, or exiled, or any otherwise destroyed; nor will we pass upon him, nor condemn him, but by lawful Judgment of his Peers, or by the Law of the Land. Note: in the 1354 version, "by the law of the land" was changed to "by due process of law." We will sell to no man, we will not deny or defer to any man either Justice or Right.

The National Parking Adjudication Service in the UK is not a court of Law within the meaning of Article 234 EC, therefore its decision will be in contravention of Article 6 of The European Convention on Human Rights.

It is unlawful for a public authority to act in a way which is incompatible with a Convention right.

The Claim of Rights 1628 amplified and confirmed by the Declaration and Bill of Rights of 1688/9 ensures that no law may be suspended or dispensed with unless with consent of Parliament. (given in judgement by Lord Bingham, House of Lords: Diane Pretty, Motor Neurone disease case, Nov. 2001) Which in turn means that suspension or dispensing of law can only be made by the express agreement of Parliament. In other words by Statute, ensuring ‘The Rule Of Law’ as the only Constitutional means of governance.

(Hansard, 21 July 1993 column 352), the Speaker of the House of Commons issued a reminder to the courts: 'There has of course been no amendment to the Bill of Rights…the house is entitled to expect that the Bill of Rights will be fully respected by all those appearing before the courts.'

Compo

On Friday, Prime Minister Tony Blair said Britain was ready to help the United States "in any way that we can".

Britain is to send 500 000 military ration packs to the southern United States regions devastated by Hurricane Katrina, the ministry of defence said on Sunday.

The armed forces meal boxes - which include a 24-hour food supply - will be flown to the US early on Monday to help feed the homeless.

500,000 Ration Packs eh

500,000 packs = 1 days food for each inhabitant

or put another way, 5 days food for 100,000

Defence secretary John Reid said: "No one could help but be moved by the pictures of devastation to New Orleans and the surrounding areas and the plight of those affected.

Just wait until they taste the stuff.

And on a more cynical note, will transporting this stuff by air contribute to global warming, which scientists say causes hurricanes.

New Orleans population (1980) 557,515 (1990) 496,938 (2000) 484,674 (2003) 469,032 (2005) ?
